Residents of Bugri and surrounding communities in the Tempane District of Ghana’s Upper East Region are facing a frightening daily reality after severe flooding destroyed a vital bridge linking communities.
The bridge, connecting Bugri and Arizeem, reportedly collapsed following torrential rains, cutting off a key route used by residents, farmers, traders and commuters. (Modern Ghana)
With no safe alternative readily available, residents have continued using the damaged crossing, exposing themselves to the danger of falling into the rushing floodwaters.
The situation has already turned deadly. A young man travelling on a motorbike was reportedly swept away by the floodwaters when the bridge collapsed and died in the incident. (Modern Ghana)

The latest disaster has renewed calls for urgent government intervention to reconstruct the bridge and restore safe access to the affected communities. Similar bridge and road washouts have previously left Bugri and neighbouring communities cut off during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents fear that without immediate action, another tragedy could occur at the crossing.
