The death of 31-year-old Theresa Boakye Dua after a scheduled Caesarean section at Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) has sparked renewed calls for answers and accountability.

Theresa died on July 16, 2026, leaving behind her husband, Daniel Ofori Asante, and their newborn son. On Friday, August 28, she was laid to rest.

In a Facebook post, Daniel O fori Asante said his wife, Theresa Boakye Dua, died on July 16, 2026, just 19 months after their marriage, leaving behind their

“Theresa’s only fault was being pregnant and placing her trust in Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) for a scheduled, elective Caesarean section,” he wrote.

Mr Asante said the death had left him
struggling to come to terms with raising their son without his wife.
“Our baby boy has been robbed of the unconditional love of a devoted mother,” he
said, expressing pain at the thought of his son growing up without the woman who had hoped to raise him.

In an emotional tribute, her husband accused the hospital and some medical personnel of negligence, unprofessionalism and reckless decision-making, saying his wife had trusted Ridge Hospital to safely deliver their first child.

He has vowed that the fight for truth will continue even after her burial, saying he wants answers and hopes no other family experiences a similar tragedy.

The case has also attracted public attention after R2Bees’ Mugeez described the situation as “gross negligence” and called on the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service to sanction workers if wrongdoing is established.

No official response from Ridge Hospital or the Ghana Health Service was included in the reports reviewed.

The family is now seeking answers as the matter continues to generate public concern about patient safety and accountability in Ghana’s healthcare system.
