A South Korean court has sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to life imprisonment after convicting him of leading an insurrection tied to his controversial declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024.
The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Yoonâs most serious offense involved mobilizing military troops and police forces in an attempt to seize control of the National Assembly of South Korea and detain key political figures during the crisis.
Prosecutors argued that the actions posed a direct threat to South Koreaâs constitutional order and democratic system. The court agreed, describing the move as an unlawful attempt to undermine civilian rule.
