TikTok Star Claims Peller Made IShowSpeed Famous in Nigeria, Sparks Online Backlash

A fresh wave of online debate has erupted after Benede, a TikTok creator and frequent collaborator of Peller, claimed that Peller played a major role in making global streamer IShowSpeed famous in Nigeria.

Benede made the remark during a live stream with other creators, but the statement was quickly met with ridicule across social media. Critics pointed out that IShowSpeed already boasts over 50 million subscribers worldwide and received massive international and local media coverage following his January 21 arrival in Lagos as part of his Speed Does Africa tour.

Peller had earlier generated buzz around a potential collaboration, publicly hyped Speed’s visit, chased his convoy, and appeared at multiple streams. However, Speed did not engage with influencer collaborations, choosing instead to spotlight street culture, everyday Nigerians, and local communities throughout his tour.

While a few social media users admitted they first heard about Speed’s Nigeria visit through Peller’s hype, the majority dismissed Benede’s claim as exaggerated, describing it as part of the ongoing content creator clout drama surrounding Speed’s African tour.

The controversy has since fueled broader conversations about relevance, influence, and entitlement within the African creator space.
