NPP’s Interest Must Come Before Personal Ambitions – Akufo-Addo

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise party unity over individual ambition as the party prepares for its January 31 presidential primaries. He made the appeal at a peace pact signing ceremony held on January 22 in Accra, where all five flagbearer hopefuls signed a memorandum committing to peaceful competition.

Speaking at the event, Akufo-Addo described the peace pact as a binding moral covenant rather than a symbolic exercise and reminded aspirants that “the NPP is bigger than any individual.” He urged all contenders to conduct their campaigns with discipline, respect, and decorum, saying their behaviour will influence the party’s moral tone and future.

The former president warned against placing loyalty to personalities above loyalty to the party, emphasising that unity is a strategic necessity for electoral success and a strong showing in the 2028 general elections.

The peace pact, also endorsed by the party’s leadership and stakeholders, commits the aspirants to uphold the integrity of the primary process, accept the outcome, and rally behind the eventual winner in the interest of party cohesion.
