Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in a joint US-Israeli military operation, according to a senior Israeli official speaking to Reuters. The 86-year-old leader’s body has been found amid the rubble of his heavily damaged compound in Tehran, following massive airstrikes that targeted Iran’s top leadership, nuclear sites, and military infrastructure.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated there are “many signs” Khamenei “is no longer,” hailing the strikes as a blow to the regime’s tyranny. US President Donald Trump, in a video announcement, described the operation as defending America from 47 years of Iranian aggression, urging Iranians to seize their freedom.
Iranian state media initially claimed Khamenei was “commanding the field” but has not provided proof of life. Witnesses report celebrations in Tehran streets, with cheers and some Iranians hailing the end of his rule.
The strikes also reportedly killed Iranian Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh, Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammed Pakpour, and Khamenei’s son-in-law and daughter-in-law #akwasibugati
