CAF Slams Senegal & Morocco with Over $1m in Fines After Chaotic AFCON 2025 Final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down unprecedented sanctions exceeding $1 million against Senegal and Morocco following misconduct during the heated AFCON 2025 final.

Senegal Sanctions 🇸🇳

Senegal were fined $615,000 in total:

$300,000 for supporters’ misconduct $300,000 for players and officials’ misbehaviour $15,000 for receiving five yellow cards in the final

Head coach Pape Thiaw was hit with a five-match CAF suspension and an additional $100,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute.

Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

Morocco Sanctions 🇲🇦

Morocco received fines totaling $415,000:

$200,000 for ball boys’ misconduct $100,000 for players and officials’ misbehaviour $100,000 fine and three-match ban for Ismail Saibari Two-match CAF ban for Achraf Hakimi $15,000 for fans’ use of laser pointers

Trophy Verdict 🏆

CAF rejected Morocco’s appeal to strip Senegal of the title over claims the team abandoned the match. The governing body ruled in Senegal’s favour, officially confirming Senegal as AFCON 2025 champions.

The decision brings closure to one of the most controversial finals in AFCON history, sending a strong message on discipline and conduct at Africa’s biggest football stage.
